Driving on a Restricted License in AZ

What can you do if your license has been suspended or revoked in the State of Arizona, but you still have responsibilities that require driving? Depending on the type of suspension or revocation, an individual may be eligible to apply for a special restricted license, also known as a hardship license

Eligibility for a Restricted License, AZ

If your driver’s license has been suspended or revoked due to a DUI, in some cases, you may be eligible to apply for a restricted license if you meet the following: 

  • The DUI was the first within 5 years
  • The DUI did not result in serious physical injury
  • You have received verification of eligibility through the MVD
  • You have no outstanding actions pending on your driving record
  • You can provide proof to the MVD that you have installed an ignition interlock device on your vehicle
  • You comply with mandatory drug or alcohol treatment programs is required
  • You can provide proof of future financial responsibility

Parameters of a Restricted License

If you have received the privilege of a restricted license, it will expire when your suspension/revocation does. After such time, you will not be permitted to drive until you have complied with all state requirements. While on the restricted license, you may be granted permission to travel to these locations during specified periods of time:

  1. Place of employment, or secondary/postsecondary school
  2. Treatment facility for scheduled appointments.
  3. The office of the person’s probation officer for scheduled appointments
