Attorney Todd K. Coolidge

Todd K. Coolidge graduated magna cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. He attended Arizona State University College of Law and has been practicing law exclusively as a criminal defense attorney since graduating in 1990. He has over 25 years of experience and is certified as a Criminal Law Specialist through the Arizona Board of Legal Specialization.

After graduating from ASU, Mr. Coolidge went to work at the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office. While with the Public Defender he helped start the office’s DUI defense unit in 1996. At the end of his time with the Public Defender he was focusing most of his practice on vehicular homicides, aggravated assaults and aggravated DUI’s. In addition, Mr. Coolidge became qualified to handle death penalty cases.

Mr. Coolidge has been in private practice since 1998. While in private practice he has conducted hundreds of jury trials in many courts throughout Arizona. In his career he has conducted trials including charges of Capital Murder, first degree murder, Aggravated Assault, Sexual Conduct with a Minor, and DUI.

Mr. Coolidge has also been very successful throughout his career in pre-file representation. This type of representation is conducted before charges are ever filed and has resulted in dismissed or reduced charges. On three separate occasions Mr. Coolidge has convinced the capital review committee from both the Maricopa County and Pinal County Attorney’s Offices to not seek the death penalty in first degree murder cases. On other occasions he has convinced police agencies not to file child molestation charges.

Once charges are filed, Mr. Coolidge has been very successful in his motion practice. If there is a violation of a person’s constitutional rights, Mr. Coolidge will find it and raise the issue before trial. This type of practice has also resulted in the dismissal of charges or the suppression of evidence.

In addition to these areas of practice, Mr. Coolidge also handles appeals, special actions, and Rule 32 Post-Conviction Relief Petitions for Review. Mr. Coolidge has one published opinion by the Arizona Court of Appeals, State v. Olcan, as well as a number of memorandum decisions.
