Todd K. Coolidge graduated magna cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. He attended Arizona State University College of Law and has been practicing law exclusively as a criminal defense attorney since graduating in 1990. He has over 25 years of experience and is certified as a Criminal Law Specialist through the Arizona Board of Legal Specialization.
After graduating from ASU, Mr. Coolidge went to work at the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office. While with the Public Defender he helped start the office’s DUI defense unit in 1996. At the end of his time with the Public Defender he was focusing most of his practice on vehicular homicides, aggravated assaults and aggravated DUI’s. In addition, Mr. Coolidge became qualified to handle death penalty cases.
Mr. Coolidge has been in private practice since 1998. While in private practice he has conducted hundreds of jury trials in many courts throughout Arizona. In his career he has conducted trials including charges of Capital Murder, first degree murder, Aggravated Assault, Sexual Conduct with a Minor, and DUI.
Mr. Coolidge has also been very successful throughout his career in pre-file representation. This type of representation is conducted before charges are ever filed and has resulted in dismissed or reduced charges. On three separate occasions Mr. Coolidge has convinced the capital review committee from both the Maricopa County and Pinal County Attorney’s Offices to not seek the death penalty in first degree murder cases. On other occasions he has convinced police agencies not to file child molestation charges.
Once charges are filed, Mr. Coolidge has been very successful in his motion practice. If there is a violation of a person’s constitutional rights, Mr. Coolidge will find it and raise the issue before trial. This type of practice has also resulted in the dismissal of charges or the suppression of evidence.
In addition to these areas of practice, Mr. Coolidge also handles appeals, special actions, and Rule 32 Post-Conviction Relief Petitions for Review. Mr. Coolidge has one published opinion by the Arizona Court of Appeals, State v. Olcan, as well as a number of memorandum decisions.

"On January 1st 2013 I was pulled over with a blood alcohol level of .265 (Super Extreme DUI). I was heading home from my local pub across the street and thought I was ok to drive. Little did I know there was a police officer waiting as I left the parking lot. I hired Mr. Coolidge to represent me. He discreetly came to my office and discussed my case with me. I only had to attend one court hearing while Mr. Coolidge took care of everything else. At the end of the hearing my Super Extreme DUI was changed to a DMV Reckless Driving charge with a penalty of 8 points on my driver’s license. No jail time, no DUI, no probation and no change on my insurance. .. Nothing. I have handed out Mr. Coolidge’s card to friends and family and they have had to use Mr. Coolidge’s services with similar results. Thank you Mr. Coolidge."
"I remember at one point in the trial when the prosecution rested, they ended by making a point where they wanted to suggest I was lying. When Todd performed the cross examination, he showed with one of the officer's body camera videos, a single frame that demonstrated clearly what I had been saying. It was a beautiful moment when that needle in a haystack was revealed. And that is just one example of the type of detail that Todd Coolidge applies to his cases. His legal skill, preparation, and courtroom presence is matched by the dignity with which he conducts himself and brings to his clients as well. I thank the Lord for Todd. It was such a boost in confidence and comfort walking into court thinking, this guy is with me!"
I got arrested in December of 2014 because I had a warrant out for my arrest due to forging prescriptions for Percocet. I was released the next day with 11 felonies, ranging from forgery, possession of narcotics and conspiracy to illegally obtain narcotic drugs. I also had 4 prior felonies and was sentenced to AZ department of corrections in 2007. With my new charges and my priors, I was literally facing 8-15 years in prison, I had no choice but to contact an attorney for there was no way I was going to allow a public defender represent me in this case, so I contacted Mr. Coolidge to represent me. From the very first meeting with Mr. Coolidge, I knew he was the only person that I wanted to represent me. For the past year he has worked diligently on my case in order to fight to keep me out of prison and that is exactly what he did, he fought and fought with everything he had. In January of 2016 I went to court for my sentencing. Mr. Coolidge was able to get me a plea agreement that dismissed 8 of the 11 charges, he was able to get a "no agreements plea" (which is a really big deal) and most importantly NOT introduce ANY of my priors. He stood up before the Judge and brilliantly made a case to keep me out of prison and give me probation so that I can go home to my son. The Judge handed down a sentence of 4 years probation. Not only did I NOT get any prison time, I also did NOT get any jail time, NO restitution, very minimal fines and I got to walk out of that court room. I can't express enough the gratitude that I have for the amazing job that Mr. Coolidge did on my behalf. Even the pre-sentence probation office recommended I get sentenced to prison on all 3 cases and yet because of Mr Coolidge's hard work and dedication to my case, I did not have spend any time in custody. Mr. Coolidge is hard working, dedicated, very smart, brilliant attorney. I would truly recommend Mr. Coolidge to anyone and everyone dealing with any type of criminal case. If you are facing any type of charges and are considering Mr. Coolidge to represent you, please take it from someone who was facing 15 years in prison and was able to just get probation, HIRE HIM IMMEDIATELY. I promise you WILL NOT regret it.
