29 Mar New Arizona Laws 2016 Edition

It’s a seemingly impossible to keep track of all the laws that our state and federal governments are continually putting on the books. To assure that you are remaining on the right side of the law, it’s a good idea to occasionally familiarize yourself with any new laws that are passed to avoid unintentional infringements.

For example, you may not know that last year the City of Tempe passed an ordinance that can fine you up to $500 for swerving or driving erratically with a phone in your hand, and up north in Coconino County, all mobile device use while driving is illegal unless you are using a hands free device. Here are a few more examples of laws that took effect just a few short months ago.

Senate Bill 1370: This new piece of legislation requires doctors and pharmacists to keep a database tracking prescriptions of controlled substances. The aim of this law is to cut down on prescription drug abuse by sharing information to keep an eye out for any red flags due to too many prescriptions.

Senate Bill 1035: This legislation allows superior courts to provide treatment programs for domestic violence offenders.

Senate Bill 1117: This interesting piece of legislation allows those who are unwilling or unable to pay court costs, fines, fees or other restitution to instead complete community service to work off the costs at a rate of $10/hour.
